Agency: Russia imposes more safety requirements on Egypt

MOSCOW, Jan 27 (PRIME) -- Russia has notified the Egypt’s aviation authorities about new requirements to air transportation safety, which must be met in order to resume flights between the countries, the Federal Air Transport Agency said in a statement on Wednesday.

“According to the data of the Egyptian side, the implementation of these requirements will require additional resources and time,” it said.

On Tuesday, Sergei Naryshkin, speaker of the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, said that Russia may lift a ban on Egyptian tourism soon, but Egypt must implement additional measures to insure safety of Russian tourists.

Moscow ceased flights to Egypt in November 2015 after a major Russian plane crash over the Sinai Peninsula. Russia believes that the plane was likely brought down by a bomb.
